Ramadhan: A month of the Quran

Ramadhan is the most sacred month in the Islamic calendar, a time of fasting, reflection, and, most importantly, deep connection with the Quran. It was during this blessed month that the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the Cave of Hira. This divine connection makes Ramadhan not just a month of fasting but a month dedicated to the recitation, understanding, and memorization of the Quran.

Why is Ramadhan the Month of the Quran?

1. The Quran Was Revealed in Ramadhan

Allah says in the Quran:

"The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion." (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:185)

This verse highlights that Ramadhan is directly linked to the Quran, making it a time when we should engage deeply with the Book of Allah.

2. The Prophet (PBUH) Reviewed the Quran with Jibreel (AS) in Ramadhan

Every Ramadhan, Angel Jibreel (AS) would visit the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and review the Quran with him. This shows us the importance of reading and revising the Quran more in this month.

3. Rewards Are Multiplied

Ramadhan is a time when good deeds are rewarded many times over. The Prophet (PBUH) said:

"Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be rewarded with a good deed, and a good deed is multiplied by ten." (Tirmidhi)

Imagine the immense reward of completing the Quran in Ramadhan!

The Importance of Reciting the Quran in Ramadhan

  1. Spiritual Growth – The Quran nourishes the soul, strengthens faith, and brings tranquility to the heart.

  2. Guidance and Clarity – The Quran is a manual for life, providing solutions to every challenge we face.

  3. Forgiveness and Mercy – Ramadhan is a time when Allah’s mercy and forgiveness are at their peak, and reading the Quran increases our chances of attaining His pleasure.

Our Commitment to the Quran

As an organization, we are committed to ensuring that the Quran remains a central part of our students' lives.

  • Hifz Program: We have students dedicated to memorizing the Quran, preserving the words of Allah in their hearts.

  • Boarding Madrassa in Kwamakhutha, Durban: We run a full-time madrassa where students live and learn the Quran, receiving a strong foundation in Islamic knowledge.

This Ramadhan, we encourage everyone to make the Quran a priority. Whether through recitation, memorization, or understanding its meanings, let us strive to strengthen our bond with the Book of Allah.

May Allah grant us the ability to benefit from the Quran in this blessed month and beyond. Ameen.
